I want to become Muslim but i am White
Who can become a Muslim?
We often receive questions can I am white American can i become Muslims or I am white British can i convert to Islam
I wish to reassure you that anyone can become a Muslim.
Islam is for the whole of humanity. Islam unites together
people of different colours, languages, nationalities and races into
one single brotherhood.
Allah says: "Indeed the Believers (believers in Islam) are but
brothers." [Quran 4 9:10]
Previous prophets of Allah (peace be upon them all) were sent to different nations and tribes but Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was sent by Allah to sent to the whole of humanity. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
Say (O Muhammad): O mankind! Verily, I am sent to you all as the Messenger of Allah to Whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth. None has the right to be worshipped but He; it is He Who gives life and causes death. So believe in Allah and His Messenger, the Prophet who can neither read nor write, who believes in Allaah and His Words, and follow him so that you may be guided. [al-Araaf 7:158].
There is no superiority of anyone over anyone else in Islam, except in terms of taqwa (piety, consciousness of Allah).
Allah says (interpretation of the meaning):
O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honourable of you with Allah is that (believer) who has al-taqwa (i.e., is one of the muttaqoon i.e the pious). Verily, Allaah is All-Knowing, All-Aware. [al-Hujuraat 49:13] Allah created different nations and tribes for a reason
And among His Signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth and the difference of your languages and colours. Verily, in that are indeed signs for men of sound knowledge. [al-Room 30:22]
The Prophet of Islam, Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be
upon him) affirmed the prohibition of racial discrimination and of
despising coloured people, when he said in his famous speech: "O
people, your Lord is One and your father [i.e., Adam] is one. There
is no superiority of the Arab over the non-Arab, or of the non-Arab
over the Arab, or of the red over the black, or of the black over the
red except with regard to taqwa." (Reported by Imaam Ahmad, 22391)
When a Muslim once insulted another Muslim having a black mother
in the presence of the Prophet. The Prophet (peace and blessings
of Allaah be upon him) said to him, You are a man who still has
jaahiliyyah (ignorance) in him.
Abu Dharr (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: There was an argument between me and one of my brothers whose mother was non-Arab. I insulted him about his mother, and he complained about me to the Prophet. I met the Prophet and he said, O Abu Dharr, you are a man who still has jaahiliyyah (ignorance) in him. (Reported by al-Bukhaari and Muslim; this version narrated by Muslim, 3139).
And thus racism was rooted out of the heart of that Muslim forever.
When you convert to Islam you will be our brother or sisters
in Islam
Therefore any human being can become a Muslim if they believe
in Islam. You do not need anyone's permission to become Muslim. You
can be of any colour, race, age, speak any language and still become
a Muslim. There are many American, British, European, African, Asian,
from every race ,colour and nationality who accept Islam every
day. Some of them are children and some are adults.
On www.muslimconverts.com we have people who accepted Islam from all ages and various backgrounds and nationalities.
Its does
not matter what you have committed in the past. For Example in the
past you may have waged war against Islam, you may have tattoos, you
may have been very wild or may have done many things. If you believe
in Islam then you can still convert to a Muslim.
Islam erases all
sins committed prior to becoming a Muslim.
Allah says :
Say to those who have disbelieved, if they cease (from disbelief),
their past will be forgiven. But if they return (thereto), then the
examples of those (punished) before them have already preceded (as a
warning)
[Quran 8:38]
Prophet (may the peace and
blessings and mercy of Allah be upon him) said, Islam annuls what
came before it. (narrated by Muslim).
As soon as you become a
Muslim all your previous sins are forgiven and you start a blank
state. Or a complete clean record.
Amr ibn al-Aas (may Allah
be pleased with him) said: When Allah put Islam in my heart, I came
to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and
said: Give me your right hand so that I may swear allegiance to you.
He held out his hand and I withdrew my hand. He said, What is the
matter, Oh Amr? I said, I want to stipulate a condition. He
said, What do you want to stipulate? I said, That I will be
forgiven. He said, Do you not know that Islam destroys that which
came before it? (narrated by Muslim)
The Prophet Muhammad peace be
upon him even welcomed to Islam those people who had previously
fought him and killed his loved ones. These people converted to Islam
and even become the heroes of Islam.
You may hear from some
Muslims incorrect advice due to their lack of knowledge of Islam or
due to lack of correct knowledge of Islam.
Someone
may say that you have to do a course or obtain a certificate to
become a Muslim. This is incorrect. You do not need to attend a
course or obtain a certificate to become Muslim.
You should not
delay in becoming a Muslim
If someone advices you to delay your
conversion to Islam. This is also incorrect. If you believe Islam is
the truth then you should not delay your conversion to Islam.
You should convert immediately because we are given a certain
lifespan and we it could be over at anytime.
If you are a
Small child you can still become a Muslim without your parents
permission
If you are a child you do not need your parent's
permission to become a Muslim. If you fear they may harm, you can
become Muslim in secret and tell them when you are ready.
How to convert to a Muslim is described on here
